HistoryMatthew Wharton started training in Taekwondo at Leeds University in 2001 under the Instruction of Paul Landreth-Smith and Stuart Wilks. As well as attending the University classes Matt I would also frequently attend Leeds Public Classes run by Paul Landreth-Smith and under the instruction of Steve Bruce. On leaving university Matt continued to train at the Leeds Public Taekwondo classes with Steve Bruce. During his training Matt gained various qualifications, Assistant Instructor and judging (desk, corner and mirror) and he would frequently be assisting small groups during these classes. Matt went on to gain his 1st Degree Black-Belt in 2004 & 2nd Degree Black-Belt in 2006 with the BBSI (Black Belt Schools International) in Doncaster. He has also attended various seminars to broaden his knowledge since becoming a black-belt. Matt is friendly and approachable and if you have any queries regarding training he is more than happy to help. Matt (as a colour-belt) entered many competitions and frequently came away with a medal of some kind, either for patterns or sparring (see below) things got a little tougher however when entering competitions as a black belt.
